What is Pampered Chef?
Pampered Chef is a Multi-Level Marketing company/E-commerce store that sells cooking hardware and also provides recipe ideas for foods. The company’s goal is to improve mealtimes for families all around the world. Here is an example of some of the products that they sell.
So as you can see, obviously Pampered Chef has a lot going on, they got products from A to Z in the food world, everything from brownie trays, dishes, spatulas, blenders, and kitchen gadgets of all kinds. They also have a heavy blog influence in which they share tons of tips and tricks to meal plans, cooking for a family, and recipes as well.
The history of Pampered Chef:
Pampered chef started in 1980 when Doris Christopher held a cooking party at her residence. She was so inspired and had such a great time showing her cooking skills to her friends and family that she started what today is known as Pampered Chef. By 1996. Pampered Chef expanded its sales of products to Canada, then it continued expanding into the Uk, Austria, Canada, and France over these last 25 years.
In 2002, the company was acquired by Warren Buffet.
Tracy Britt Cool became the company’s new CEO in 2014, then in March 2020, Andrew Treanor took over as CEO.
In 2015 the company closed down its UK business operations.
Quality and Price of the Products, are they worth it?
MLMs have always been controversial for having products that are more expensive than their store counterparts. Does Pampered Chef follow the same formula or do they have fair price gauges on their products, and are their products the same quality or better than all of the pots and pans you could buy at Walmart and Target?
The answer, Yes. These products are probably better than what you could get at Walmart and Target, yes. This is a huge plus for the MLM industry, and this business might stand out in a more positive spotlight compared to the negative. Pampered Chef actually offers some quality products for the public, which means that as a consultant, you can sell products that are legitimate and have a high-quality factor, instead of trying to sell worthless products as a pipe dream.
So as you can see, people generally enjoy Pampered Chef products, this is good news for both customers and consultants. When you have a legitimate product, direct selling is much easier, and people won’t automatically assume you are backing a pyramid scheme as long as you have something of value to offer to potential clients.
However, the products are more expensive compared to other cooking ware and kitchen appliance products.
Why are Pampered Chef Products so expensive?
Pampered Chef’s products have higher quality materials put into their pots, pans, and ceramics. Essentially, they’re asking for more money for the higher quality products that they sell. They market to people who want to serve the best food possible for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Since we can see that Pampered Chef offers quality products and there is a lot of praise all over the globe for these products, our rating for the Pampered Chef products is a 4/5.
we will now review the MLM structure, or in other words, the opportunity to make money with this company.
Being a consultant with Pampered Chef.
As a consultant for Pampered Chef, you can sell Pampered Chef products and earn a commission on them, however like all MLM’s, there is a start-up cost and a recurring business cost to stay a part of the downline. Obviously, money talks and money is important, so this is the first thing you’re gonna wanna know about.
The cost of business involves buying a kit, the cheapest one is the starter kit. This costs $79. Then there is the Deluxe kit for $159 and the Ultimate kit for $279.
The website mentions that you can do this business without any inventory, but that is misconstrued considering that you have to at least buy the starter kit to get started.
The nice thing, however, is that whatever you sell, you can earn at least 20% off your sales.
There are two ways to make money with Pampered Chef, #1 is selling the products, and #2 is recruiting.
Selling The Products:
Here is the commission structure:
You make 20% when the customer buys products within the price range of $1-$179, 22% commission when the customer exceeds $750 in purchasing, and so on and so forth. (look at the chart above)
Recruiting:
The second way to make money with Pampered Chef is by recruiting others into your downline. With this method, other members will also be forced to buy a business kit, which you will make a 10% commission on, and you will also make a 3% commission off of any sales that your recruiters make.
Simple and to the point, that is how you make money with Pampered Chef.
Does Pampered Chef offer an affiliate program?
No, Pampered Chef does not have an affiliate program. This means that the only way to promote and make money from Pampered Chef’s products is by joining the MLM structure and purchasing a business kit.

In addition to the fact that there is no affiliate program, that means that you are extremely limited in terms of how you can promote these products.
Pampered chef recommends that you host cooking parties, set up all these decorations, and unveil the Pampered Chef products to friends and families to promote their utilities. Yes, because there is nothing like a party to try to make money off of your friends and family.
The flaw in Pampered Chef’s business model:
Well, #1, as I just stated, but it can’t be stressed enough, there’s no affiliate program, you must pay to play. Without an affiliate program, you are seriously limited in your outreach. You can only promote to your friends and family, and chances are that everyone is going to make fun of you while doing it, MLM’s are rarely an acceptable form of business to normal people these days.
#2, there are already over 40,000 consultants for Pampered Chef. This is something that they brag about, but when it comes to you, this is not a good thing because it just means you are going to be joining a cesspool of competition.
#3, it’s not going to outcompete the kitchen selling giants like Home chef, Amazon, and Stonewall kitchen, especially with a direct selling model. The reason why they promote to you the idea that you should gather your friends and family around for a cooking demo is because they know they can’t compete with the big leagues. Yes, they have good products, but their marketing strategy isn’t in commercials or advertising, it’s in hyping up random people off the street to be consultants and spread the word to friends and family.
#4 They want your absolute loyalty. As a Pampered Chef consultant, they only allow you to promote their products and absolutely nothing else. This explains why they do not have an affiliate program.
Why affiliate marketing is better:
Unlike MLM where they put these rules in place and if you happen to break them the business is gonna sue your pants off, with Affiliate Marketing, there are no limits to how many programs you can work with and promote their products, and there are no limits for your marketing audience.
Most people aren’t successful in MLMs, not only because everyone is fed up with their sh*t, but also because when you promote their products, you never attract a targeted audience of traffic. You just promote it to your friends and family, and they might not exactly be interested in pots and pans.
With pampered chef, you very well could be trying to convince someone who eats fast food daily to buy exquisite cooking pans. Point being, this person who eats fast food daily probably doesn’t give a damn about overly priced kitchen gadgets.
However, with affiliate marketing, I can promote content for people who love kitchen appliances. I simply have to find the correct search queries these people are searching into search engines(like Google) and create content that matches their search intent.

I don’t have to promote my content to my friends and family in order to potentially make money(which is always awkward), I can get traffic organically, I can join groups that have similar interests on social media and promote my content to them, I can gain traffic organically by creating amazing content that search engines will crawl too and promote my post on the first page of search engines, the possibilities are endless.
and this is just from searching pots & pans on amazon. The thing about affiliate marketing as well is that the only rules you really need to follow are that if you make a blog, you need to list a Privacy Policy, which tells people you won’t steal their data, you need to upload an affiliate disclosure, which tells people that if they click on a link that brings them to a product, you make a commission…and yeah, that’s about it.
Certain affiliate programs have a higher barrier to entry than others, and certain affiliate programs have rules to how you promote their products, but outside of that, for most affiliate programs, you can promote their products and services in any way you see fit.
You can sign up for as many affiliate programs as you want, and the beauty of being an affiliate marketer is that there is no conflict of interest.
Review Conclusion:
Pros:
-High ratings for products, and the company has been making a lot of money since the 1990s
-A+ Rating on the BBB.
-Good commission structure, starting at 20%
Cons:
-While the company has an A+ Rating with the Better Business Bureau, it appears that a lot of complaints on the BBB don’t share the sentiment.
-It’s an MLM-based company so when it comes to customer service, well instead of dealing with experts, your gonna be dealing with…your consultant. So I would imagine getting a refund on a defective product wouldn’t be the easiest process.
-Extreme limitations on how to get targeted traffic to the products you want to promote
-You can’t promote products outside of the companies products.
-Most people lose money in MLM’s. And trust me, you are not the only one who thinks “I’ll be the exception, I’ll be the one who breaks the mold”. Positive thinking is always good, but positive thinking can’t outperform a failing business model.
